Good for quick projects

I used Vultr for a small project last month, got a Cloud Compute instance setup pretty fast. It was for some testing, nothing super heavy, but it ran smoothly. The interface was easy enough to figure out. I had a little trouble finding where to add my payment method at first, but once that was sorted, everything just worked. I like how simple it was to get things going without a ton of hassle.

Decent value, room for improvement

I signed up for a Managed Database (PostgreSQL) a few weeks ago for a new application. The performance has been solid, and I appreciate that it handles a lot of the backend stuff without me needing to worry too much. For the price, it feels like a good deal compared to some other providers I've looked at. However, I did have a small issue with their support response time when I had a question about scaling; it took about a day and a half to hear back, which felt a bit slow. Not a deal-breaker, but something they could tighten up. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service itself.

Fast Linux VPS setup

I needed a Linux VPS. Signed up, picked a server, and it was ready in minutes. Performance is good. No issues so far.

What kind of payment options do they even have? I'm not really into using my credit card for everything online.

D David Ito 1 month ago
They take PayPal, credit cards, and I think even crypto, last I checked. Super flexible.

Yeah, they do. I pay with PayPal usually, but I've seen options for Bitcoin too. Pretty standard stuff.

Quick question about their cloud gpu options, specifically the NVIDIA A100. Are those usually available or do you have to wait on a list?

P Priya Vargas 1 month ago
A100s can be tricky to get sometimes, depending on the region. You might need to check a few data centers.

Availability varies, especially for the high-end stuff like A100s. I've had luck in certain US regions, but it's not always guaranteed right away.

Hey, thinking about signing up for Vultr. I saw some stuff about free credits for new users, like $100 or something. How do I actually get that?

D Daisy Romero 2 months ago
Yeah, you usually get a promo code when you sign up. Just make sure you put it in right at the start, when you're making your account.

They often have deals, sometimes for $50, sometimes more. It's only for new accounts though, and it usually expires after a month or two, so use it fast!

is vultr good for like, a small personal project? or is it more for big companies with tons of traffic? kinda comparing it to digitalocean.

D Dan Silva 2 months ago
Totally fine for small stuff. I run a couple of WordPress sites on their cheapest plan and it's solid. Way better performance than some shared hosting I used to have.

It's good for both actually. I use it for a dev environment and it's super snappy. For a personal project, their basic compute instances are usually plenty.

Do Vultr credits expire? I signed up with a promo code but I'm not ready to deploy anything serious yet.

N Neil 1 month ago
Oh yeah, they definitely expire. Usually within 30-60 days. Don't let them go to waste!

Most of those new user credits have a strict expiration. Like, mine was good for 30 days and then poof, gone. So try to use them up if you can.

I'm thinking of building something with Kubernetes. Is their managed Kubernetes service any good compared to, say, Google Cloud's or AWS's?

W Wendy E. 2 months ago
It's decent for the price. Not as many bells and whistles as GKE or EKS, but if you're looking for something simpler and cheaper, it's a solid choice.

I've used VKE for a small cluster. It gets the job done for sure. If you're already familiar with K8s, it's pretty straightforward. GCP and AWS have more advanced features, but Vultr's is usually easier on the wallet.
